The Passover has a very important meaning as a feast of God. The Passover let disasters pass over those who keep it (as you understand the word ‘Passover’), and Jesus promised to give the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. You can find out the scene of the Passover that Jesus and disciples kept together before the day of Jesus’ crucifixion in the four gospels.(Matt 26:17, Mark 14:12, Luke 22:7, John 6:53)-WMSCOG
In addition Leonardo da Vinci draw the scene of Passover in the name of the “Last Supper”. Then, when was started to keep the Passover?
The Appearance of the Passover-WMSCOG
The Passover was firstly appeared in the age of Egypt before 3,500years ago. Israelites had a life of agony as salves of Egyptians over 400 years.(Gen 15:13) Moreover, Egyptians persecuted Israelites more mercilessly at the time of Moses that destined to be freed from slavery as God’s promise, the wailing of them reached to God. Everyday, they had bitter lives with hard bondage in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field.(Ex 1:12~14)
Hearing the wailing of Israelites, God sent the prophet. Moses to save them. He went to Pharaoh with the power of God and requested Pharaoh to free them. However Pharaoh refused the command of God and as a result, the plagues broke out all over the Egypt.
The tenth plague was to kill every firstborn son on the fourteenth day of the first month. God let the disasters Pass over those who put the blood of the Passover lamb on the top and side of the door-frame. This is Passover.
Passover that Pass over the disasters-WMSCOG
Ex 12:11~13 This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your hand, Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover. On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn-both men and animals-and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
On the day, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh to this sons of the prisoners, all of them put to death.(Ex 12:29~30)
However, Israelites who put the blood of the Passover lamb on the top and side of the doorframe were saved from any disasters.
Ex 12:23 When the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
All houses were feeling agony of the dead and mourning for the tragic reality. The people and Pharaoh really thought that the reason for the tragedy occurred because they had not set Israelites free. Finally he accepted to release them by the Moses’ request, and they could feel happy setting from slavery with the power of the Passover. The Passover was originated from this. Was this power of the Passover applied to only the age of the Exodus? God commanded us to keep the Passover forever as a lasting ordinance.
Ex 12:14 This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD-a lasting ordinance 12:24 Obey these instruction as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants.
It means the power of the Passover is valid for us keeping the Passover to this day. Wish all of you to experience the power of the Passover. -WMSCOG-
